The UP Cabinet has approved the extension of the Aqua Line Metro, bringing the project closer to serving sectors along the Noida-Greater Noida and Yamuna expressways. The plan includes extending the Aqua Line from Sector 142 to the Botanical Garden station, which will connect with Delhi Metro’s Blue and Magenta lines. This new 11.5 km stretch will include eight stations and is estimated to cost Rs 2,254 crore.

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) highlighted that this approval is a major step forward in expanding the Metro network in the city, promising significant benefits for the region. The extension aims to meet the growing need for efficient and reliable public transportation.

NMRC’s managing director, Lokesh M, emphasized that the state cabinet’s approval is a crucial move toward ensuring seamless public transportation. He noted that the new metro corridor is specifically designed to cater to the increasing demand for better transit options.

Details of the Aqua Line Extension

As Noida continues to grow along the Yamuna Expressway, there has been a strong demand for Metro connectivity from both residents and office workers. The new extension will have stations at key locations, including Botanical Garden, Sector 44, Noida Authority Office in Sector 96, and others, making it easier for people to commute within the city.

Improved Connectivity to Airport and Railway Station

Once completed, this extension will make it easier to travel between Noida, Greater Noida, and Delhi. It will provide direct connections to the IGI Airport via the Magenta Line and to the New Delhi Railway Station via the Blue Line. Additionally, inter-city buses to Greater Noida will be available from the Botanical Garden station.

Currently, many residents and workers rely on cabs, autorickshaws, personal cars, and two-wheelers to travel along the expressway, which can be costly. Sudhir Sood, a resident of Sector 44, pointed out that the lack of a strong public transport system forces people to depend on these expensive alternatives.

Project Cost and Timeline

The project still needs approval from the central government before NMRC can hire a contractor. Once approved, construction is expected to take about three years. The cost of the project will be shared by the Noida Authority, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority, and the UP and central governments.

“There’s still a long way to go before construction starts,” Sood commented, reflecting the anticipation among local residents and workers.

When completed, the new Metro corridor is expected to transform daily commutes by reducing congestion and lowering transportation costs for many. With central government approval, construction could soon begin, leading to a more connected and efficient transportation network in the region.
