The Gujarat government has approved a budget of Rs 6.68 billion to upgrade 787 panchayat roads, transforming them from asphalt to concrete. This project will cover a total of 1,020 kilometers of rural roads, aiming to improve road durability and strengthen connectivity in the region.
As per the official statement, the plan includes the construction of 5.50-meter-wide concrete roads, designed to prevent deterioration due to waterlogging and heavy traffic. In areas where concrete roads are not feasible, paver blocks will be installed as an alternative.
Recent monsoon rains have caused extensive damage to the existing road network, primarily due to widespread waterlogging. The allocated funds are intended to address these issues by reinforcing rural roads, providing a long-lasting solution to road damage and enhancing transportation safety for local residents.
