The Maharashtra government officially approved a proposal to rename Pune’s international airport as ‘Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Airport.’ This decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, with plans to forward the proposal to the Central Government for final approval.
Chief Minister Shinde made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), where he also shared updates about various government schemes and public benefits. Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, echoed this announcement on X, confirming that the state government had taken the first step by approving the renaming proposal. The next phase involves sending the proposal to the central government for further processing.
Mohol further added that the final approval is anticipated in an upcoming cabinet meeting. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had approved a similar proposal in Pune just two days earlier. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had also expressed his support, assuring that the central government would back the renaming initiative. According to Mohol, this successful step marks the beginning of the renaming process.
